BRIEFING
“Concurso do Mar”| “The Sea Contest”, ( April 2023) and was intended to bring themes like health and food habits to the little ones in preschool and elementary school.
The Education program is carried out by Continente (the main supermarket chain in Portugal). After "Mistério na Horta" | "Garden's Mystery" in 2022 🍅🥕🥦, this is the second book released under the new visual identity of EMC, and Bavaroise was invited to illustrate the story of the new theme about fish and their health benefits. 🐠🦐🐟
SINOPSE
"This story follows the adventures of Guelras (stone bass) and Roberto (common snook), two fish friends who take a vacation trip along the Portuguese coast. Along the way, they encounter many other amazing fish and take part in the biggest contest ever held in the sea. Will they arrive on time and sign up? Can they manage to escape the dangers and pollution that fill our waters? Immerse yourself in this tale and let yourself be carried away on this underwater adventure (…)”
IDEA
The first challenge for this book was to maintain the simplicity and style of EMC while ensuring that the characters resemble specific fish species, especially the ones we eat.
Before developing each scene, we highlighted the most interesting parts and sketched the characters to discuss with the client. We added details like hats and bows to give them personality. #Together, we discussed how to introduce little curiosities on the pages.🤩
The other challenge was figuring out how to illustrate the fish and their emotions when they were excited about ending up as the main dish. But… if SpongeBob can start a fire underwater, these fish can definitely get hyped to fill our tummies.
